Boobs & Blood Film Festival September 24-26
First Ever Boobs & Blood Film Festival Takes Los Angeles B-Movie Fandom To A Whole New Level. Groundbreaking Festival Unites Fans of Grindhouse Cinema, Psychotronic Kistch and Japanese PINK Films At The New Beverly Cinema September 24-26.
Devoted to all cinema weird, outrageous and anything but the norm, Boobs & Blood is a festival bringing together fans of grindhouse cinema, B-movie horror flicks and Japanese PINK films for a weekend of kitsch-awesomeness at the only logical place in Los Angeles for such a gathering: The New Beverly Cinema. Festival President Miles Flanagan (a lifelong fan of psychotronica) describes Boobs & Blood as "a celebration of the past and showcase of the future," highlighting the films from the 70's that got fans like Quentin Tarantino hooked on the genre and world-premiering some new work at the same time. From September 24 - 26th, fans are invited to the New Beverly Cinema to participate in the most outrageous boob-filled weekend ever assembled.
Friday, September 24th will kick-off the festival with a rare screening of the unrated cut of "Suicide Girls Must Die," presented for the first time in Beyond 3D-O-Vision! with Suicide Girls in person. Saturday and Sunday mix it up between PINK and grindhouse, with a screening of the only remaining 35mm print of Fred Olen Ray's 1980's classic "Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers," presented by star Michelle Bauer and the director himself, and a PINK double-feature of "The Japanese House-Wife Next Door" and its sequel, proudly presented by the movies' cast and crew.
PINK films range the gamut from kitsch to high art, and they are a genre that has gotten little exposure outside of Japan. Defined by a requirement for a minimum number of sex scenes, the restrictions placed on the genre has produced a range of movies from WTF insanity to high-art cinema with breathtaking cinematography. The PINK Vampire movie, "Moon Light Dinner," will make its international premiere on Sunday, with the film's groundbreaking director Yutaka Ikejima (who has made over 200 films in the genre) and bombshell PINK icon Reiko Yamaguchi presenting in person.
Other screenings on the schedule include Sex Galaxy, S&M Hunter and Pervert: The Movie. Pervert: The Movie will be followed up with a Q & A with adult film star Mary Cary. More exciting films and guests to be announced shortly. The entire weekend will be a mecca to B-Movie lovers of all types.
What makes the festival different is the pre-show event. Before each screening there's a fast paced late-night style, Rat-pack, burlesque show - complete with house band (The Sweet Nothings), short films, surprise guests, contests, dancers, all held together by comedy hosts Eric Acosta, Brady Novak and Kyle Kinane.
Other events thrown into the mix are the world premiere of the new Pornioke website, which allows users to turn themselves into virtual 70's porn stars, giveaways, Q&A's, S&M girls, and The Psychotronic Movie Awards honoring the biggest and best in grindhouse today. After every screening will be a catered "mix and mingle" party - for both fans and professionals alike. So bring your resume, film script and autograph book too!
"I'm putting this together, first and foremost, because I'm fan," explains Festival President Miles Flanagan. "I know everyone involved in Boobs & Blood is as passionate about these movies as anyone attending, and we're going to make this exactly the kind of weekend these movie-lovers want. A good grindhouse time will be had by all." A man of many passions, music composer, script writer, film director, and owner of Parallax Studioworks, Inc), Miles says this is the first time he's brought all of his passions together. A longtime patron of the New Beverly Cinema Miles knew that it was the venue to host an event like this. Says Miles, "The New Beverly has always been a home for fans in this community. Especially now that Quentin Tarantino has stepped in as the venue's owner, this place will forever be the hub for the off-beat in Los Angeles."
