Eric Shapiro Telling Stories For The End Of The World
Last month, horror/sci-fi publisher Permuted Press inked a deal with author Eric Shapiro for a fiction collection titled "Stories For the End of the World," which will combine three short novels and seven short stories by the author.
In its pages, "Stories..." will feature zombies, a meteorite attack, massive flooding, a suicidal robot, some insane asylum patients, and a woman who gives birth to an enormous bird.
Among the included tales will be "It's Only Temporary," a novella about the last day on Earth that was originally published by Permuted in 2005, and has won praise from genre authors including John Skipp and James Rollins.
"I'm excited to be back in business with Permuted," says author Shapiro. "Leave it to [Permuted Press owner and founder] Jacob Kier to put out a collection like this. This book will be out of its mind."
Founded in Arkansas in 2004, Permuted Press has gone on to become a leading zombie and apocalyptic publisher, and works in partnership with Pocket Books for a number of its zombie fiction titles.

Asked if he thinks the world is ending, Shapiro says, "The world as we know it? Definitely. Whether that means calamities are coming, I have no idea. But the way people act and think is undergoing an extreme shift. Anyone can see that. And these stories will speak to what's happening around the world."
A release date for "Stories For the End of the World" will be announced at a later time.
Meanwhile, "Rule of Three," a film-noir feature produced and directed by Shapiro, is being prepped for release by Big Screen Entertainment Group in early 2010.
