After two weeks of active and sometimes grueling production, the dark western web series Animus Cross has wrapped production on its second series, "Hell For The Company." The series, which shot on location throughout Northwest Oregon and Southwest Washington, finished production with an action-packed, two-day fight sequence involving several stunt performers and series stars Jerry Buxbaum and Harold Phillips.
"As a seasoned stunt coordinator," says Buxbaum. "I wanted to help Amanda produce Animus Cross to raise the level of action available to viewers on the web. We've got the experience, the equipment and the personnel, including all of the local stunt players recently coming off the TNT Television show Leverage to help put together some really thrilling action sequences. "
To help devise the series' action sequences and train Phillips for his part in them, Buxbaum enlisted the aid of noted martial artist Guro John Bruce Daniels. Daniels, a 7th dan Black Belt in Arnis Demano and a certified instructor in Jeet Kune Do, has worked on a number of film, television and video projects as a trainer, stunt performer and choreographer.
"I've done a fair amount of action in some of the web series I've been involved with," says Phillips," like Lady Wasteland and The Outbreak. Working with 'JD,' though, was a real dream – I mean, come on, the guy trained under Dan Inosanto, Bruce Lee's number one instructor. We were in very very good hands. He helped make us all look great during the big fight sequence with the creatures!"
Daniels was joined by seasoned stunt performers such as Keith Crystal Cox (also a black belt and member of the Inosanto Academy), Derek A. Sasaki (a third-degree black belt in Kajukenbo) and Scott K. Hills (a black belt in Tae Kwon Do and Wun Hop Kuen Do kungfu).
"John Daniels' expertise in the Filipino art Arnis is a perfect match to one of the signature weapons used in the series," says series creator A.L. Steen, "the Igorot headhunting axe wielded by Sheriff Sarcous and provided by Ron Kosakowski at Traditional Filipino Weapons. I chose the headhunting axe because of it's organic and deadly look. In JD's hands, it became very deadly and he was able to pass that aspect along to Jerry [Buxbaum]."
Now that the series has wrapped production, it heads to Steen House's post-production facility in Sagle, ID. Animus Cross' second series, "Hell For The Company," is set to launch at http://www.animuscross.com in April, 2010; the first series, entitled "Hell Runs This Way," is currently online and available for viewing at that site. Steen plans to go into production on Animus Cross' third series, "Myself Am Hell" in mid 2010.
