IPA Award Winner Andy Batt Joins Animus Cross
Fresh from his recent wins at the International Photography Awards, Portland-area photographer Andy Batt has joined the team behind the celebrated frontier web series Animus Cross as the show's new Director of Photography.
"We're thrilled to have Andy on board," says series creator A.L. Steen. "Scheduling conflicts prevented our Series I DP, Jason Satterlund, from joining us on this shoot; when Andy told us that he was interested and available, we jumped at the chance to work with him."
"I've worked with [series star Jerry Buxbaum] for years," says Batt. "He's always supported me and my projects, and when this opportunity became available I was glad to throw my hat in the ring. I've been eager and anxious to play in the dark world of Animus Cross since the first series was released."
Batt opted to use the Cannon 5D Mark II to shoot the second series, rather than the HVX-200 the original series was shot on. "The 5D's image quality is truly amazing," he says. "Shooting on this HD camera is like shooting on digital film rather than shooting on video. The image quality and depth is going to be a major step up from what the audience has come to expect."
Batt brings years of photography experience to the project. His most recent film, the Cinema Syndicate production Overdrawn, was an audience favorite at this year's 48 Hour Film Festival and is gaining even more attention as the production group shows the "director's cut" to new audiences.
Animus Cross' first series, entitled "Hell Runs This Way," is online and available for viewing at http://www.animuscross.com. The second series, "Hell For The Company," is set to launch on that site in April, 2010. Steen plans to go into production on the third series, "Myself Am Hell" in mid 2010.
