A Message from the Festival Founder Denise Gossett

Back in early 2001 I starred in the horror film "Chain Of Souls" and was searching for ways to get the word out when I discovered there really weren't any film festivals focusing on horror. I came up with the idea to start a horror film festival and I told my sister-in-law Kimberlee my "silly" idea. She loved it! And even though we had no idea what we were doing, we immediately got to work ...I always say naivete will take you far and we are proof. We thought doing this festival would be fun and perhaps we'd be able to make some money to put towards making our own films. Little did we know how popular this "little" festival would become! After a few years Kimberlee ended up moving back to her home town in Michigan to raise her son. Her brother, my husband, Todd Beeson stepped in and we have been co-directors ever since.

Now in our 10th year, it's amazing to look back on the early years and see how far we've come. Submissions have gone through the roof and entries now come from every country! It blows our minds that this "silly" little idea that I had 10 years ago has become the festival with such a loyal following! We've learned a lot through the years and have met such amazing people. I just want to say how truly grateful I am for all of the supportive filmmakers, screenwriters, and fans. Thank you for keeping us around.

Stephen Romano Presents Shock Festival was selected for Harry Knowles DVD Picks for February, 2010:

"If you love 70s and 80s genre cinema, this is pretty much a blissful experience. The DVD with zillions of mp3's of old radio spots are GOLD! I find I can lose an entire afternoon listening to them as I surf the web. In all this has tons of awesome trailers and weird stuff that makes people that love both just happy as hell. Romano did a great job with this!" -Harry Knowles, Ain't It Cool News http://www.aintitcool.com/node/44049

The Caustic Critics of Rue Morgue Radio aired a detailed and very positive review of Shock Festival, incorporating a generous number of the classic radio spots from disc three - plus – a contest:

Previous Praise for Shock Festival:

"Delightful when taken in small doses or in an orgy of wallowing, Stephen Romano Presents: Shock Festival is the perfect thing for the genre fan - it's like a huge box of candy, and only your self control stands in the way. 4 Stars" – DVD TALK

"Anyone who enjoys trailer compilations and is interested in some fairly recent exploitation-film history will want to check out this set." - DVD Verdict

"It all adds up to a nice primer on the kind of cinema we don't see today: softcore silliness like Flesh Gordon; oddball atrocities like Sadomania or Gone with the Pope; splatterific statements like Maniac or Bloodsucking Freaks. Film is too safe today, too micromanaged in to what will work within a certain specific demographic and what won't. Missing is most of the fun, the chutzpah, and the hackneyed hilarity of the Shock Festival follies."
- Popmatters

"Out of all the classic exploitation film trailer compilations on DVD, Stephen Romano's Shock Festival has got to be the best single release to date." – Grindhouse Database.com

"As much fun as the new specifically created trailers for bogus films are, it's the massive selection of genuine archive trailers that make this set truly desirable. With great extras and fantastic packaging to boot, this comes highly recommended." - Sex Gore Mutants

"Shock Festival exceeded my expectations in every way." – Killer Reviews

"This is a great set for movie lovers who hunger for something more than your average Hollywood blockbuster." – Arrow In The Head

"You simply can't lose with SHOCK FESTIVAL" - Film Fanaddict

"Overall Stephen Romano presents Shock Festival is a must own for any genre movie fan. It's the absolute best trailer compilation DVD set I've ever seen and pretty much knocks the socks off anyone ever released before and that's saying something." - Bloodtype Online

"Shock Festival is every cult cine aficionados dream." - Synergy Magazine

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all of the content contributors, cast, and crew who were able to make it out to our NYC screening at the Anthology Film Archives and for knocking a few back at the Double Down both before AND after the show. It was an incredible night, well documented by our own Michael Raso on the Alternative Cinema Blog
