Cameras roll on Dark Castle Home Entertainment horror/thriller starring Sophie Monk, Tad Hilgenbrinck and William Sadler. Warner Premiere announced today that Dark Castle Home Entertainment has begun production in Sofia, Bulgaria on the horror film The Hills Run Red.
Featuring rising stars Sophie Monk and Tad Hilgenbrinck alongside veteran actor William Sadler and up-and-comers Alex Wyndham and Janet Montgomery, the film is being directed by Dave Parker and is written by David J. Schow (The Crow) and John Dombrow from a story by John Dombrow & John Carchietta. Dark Castle Entertainment's Steve Richards (House of Wax, Gothika) and Erik Olsen (The Reaping, Return to House on Haunted Hill) are serving as producers along with Roee Sharon, Robert Meyer Burnett and John Carchietta. Carl Morano is executive producing.
"The Hills Run Red brings together a hot young cast, production talent with a proven track record within this genre—an arena few know as well as Dark Castle—as well as a story line guaranteed to hook horror fans," said Matt Bierman, Vice President, Production, Warner Premiere.
In the vein of horror classics from the 1970s and 80s, Dark Castle's The Hills Run Red follows Tyler, a film fanatic whose obsession with finding a complete print of an infamous slasher movie leads him and two friends into the backwoods where the film was shot. They realize too late that filming never ended—and now they must survive a nightmarish onslaught or become part of the movie forever.
The film will be distributed by Warner Home Video and will be available on DVD in 2009.
Australian singer and actress Sophie Monk, who plays Alexa, is best known as a member of female pop group Bardot and her subsequent solo career. Most recently she has appeared in such feature films as Date Movie, Click and Sex and Death 101.
Tad Hilgenbrinck, who plays Tyler, first came to audiences' attention with his role as Matt Stifler in American Pie Presents: Band Camp, and will next be seen in Warner Premiere's Lost Boys The Tribe. He also appeared in the 2006 film The Curiosity of Chance.
Screen veteran William Sadler portrays the twisted villain, filmmaker Wilson Wyler Concannon. He has starred in over 70 movies, including Die Hard 2, Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight, and The Shawshank Redemption. He was recently seen in The Mist and August Rush.
Alex Wyndham and Janet Montgomery round out the cast as Tyler's friends Lalo and Serina. Alex was last seen in the hit HBO series Rome, while Janet has appeared in the popular British series Skins.
