'Ticked-Off Trannies with Knives' Will Get Bloody Revenge in Theaters Thanks to Breaking Glass Pictures. Breaking Glass Pictures has acquired the North American distribution rights to Israel Luna's violent revenge slasher "Ticked-Off Trannies with Knives" following its controversial world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival. The deal was struck between Breaking Glass Pictures CEO Richard Wolff and Eastgate Pictures President Ronna Wallace. The film will arrive in theaters via a series of screenings throughout the Halloween season prior to its DVD/VOD release in November.
"Trannies" stars Willam Belli ("Nip/Tuck") as a member of a transgender sisterhood that is brutally bashed and left for dead by a group of cold-blooded rednecks. Following the bloody mayhem, the surviving ladies regroup, arm themselves, and go after their attackers, proving that it takes balls to get revenge. "Trannies" calls to mind the recent films of Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez, and should fit right in with Breaking Glass Pictures other groundbreaking horror films like "Someone's Knocking at the Door" and "Sympathy."
"It's hard to imagine a film that more perfectly suits our company than 'Ticked-Off Trannies with Knives,'" says Wolff. "Since it has a mixture of horror and LGBT themes, plus mainstream comedic appeal, it plays to the demographics of all of our film labels."
Breaking Glass Pictures President Richard Ross is considering all the possibilities for what will be a flagship title.
"We're still debating whether it should be on our Breaking Glass Pictures, Vicious Circle Films, or Queer Culture Cinema label. Whatever we decide, this film truly has a wide appeal for an adventurous audience."
"Trannies" received high praise from audiences and critics at the Tribeca Film Festival, in spite of GLAAD calling the film "anti-transgender." Many have disagreed with GLAAD's protests, including Michael Musto of the Village Voice, who has gone so far as to say "Ticked-Off Trannies with Knives" "deserves a GLAAD award" for its message of empowerment.
Director Luna is still in awe that "Trannies" has made such an impression on the public.
"I'm not sure if the controversy and protests have swayed people to approach the movie in a certain way, but the reactions have been amazing," says Luna. "We've gotten people yelling at the screen booing the villain, people cheering for the girls saying things like 'kick their ass!' I never expected this to be such a reaction-type of film, but I'm so happy that that's what the fans have made it!"
