Wild Man Of The Navidad on DVD August 11

From the producer of the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre comes another fact-based shocker set in the Lone Star State. It's Back to the Time and Place Where Modern Horror Started, With a Gripping and Gruesome Tale Set Deep in the Texas Woods in the 1970s. Fright-Flick Fans' Wishes Are Fulfilled When Festival Favorite Arrives on DVD on August 11, 2009

Just when you thought it was safe to wander around in Texas again comes THE WILD MAN OF THE NAVIDAD, a new horror film from Kim Henkel, producer of the original "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" and its horrifying sequels. Having elicited shrieks and nervous laughter at numerous festivals, beginning with New York's prestigious Tribeca Film Festival in 2008, the creepy modern classic slashes its way onto DVD from IFC Films via MPI Media Group on August 11, 2009. The disc, which includes ADD EXTRAS HERE, has an SRP of $24.98.

Writer-directors Duane Graves and Justin Meeks, working from the recently discovered journals of one Dale S. Rogers, re-create mid-1970s rural Texas to tell the story of a small town that was terrorized for years by a mysterious creature lurking in the nearby woods. Rogers (played by Justin Meeks) is just making ends meet as a welder, but when he loses his job, he decides to sell deer-hunting rights to his land – even though he knows there's some sort of man/beast wreaking bloody havoc out there.

In his review of THE WILD MAN OF THE NAVIDAD at the movie web site Cinematical, critic Scott Weinberg praised the filmmakers for "an impressive job of re-creating the look of '70s exploitation flicks, with their slightly sketchy visual style, their odd divergences into redneck country, and their unwavering commitment to the 'slow burn' horror style." Ain't It Cool News called the movie "hilarious and creepy," the Austin Chronicle said it was "pure '70s drive-in nostalgia" and Shock Cinema praised it as "a kick-ass celebration Texas life, local legends and rural exploitation cinema!"

THE WILD MAN OF THE NAVIDAD, which also appeared at Fantastic Fest 2008, marks the impressive feature directing debut of Meeks and Graves following a string of horror and comedy shorts including "Up Syndrome," which won the grand prize at director Kevin Smith's Movies Askew film festival in 2006.

The DVD presents the film in widescreen letterbox format. Bonus material includes: Introduction by Kim Henkel, Director Meet and Greet, Behind the Screams, Character Study, Pre-Production Footage, The Hypostatic Union, Director Commentary, Trailer.

"creepy Southern fried creature feature with a slasher movie twist"

"Mixes homage with horror for a pretty potent dose of movie moonshine."
